Paradise on Ihla Grande - Lopes Mendes Beach

DSC_0182The last weekend of my trip was spent on the beautiful island Ihla Grande, which is off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Our group of 13 (or so) arrived on early Saturday morning and immediately dropped our bags off at the hostel and headed straight to the beach. This was my first time staying at a hostel so I was wary of the 'ettiquette' involved however El Misti was such a lovely little place with a laidback, hippie vibe that I instantly felt at home- and for 30 reals a night I couldn't complain!

Lopes Mendes beach, roughly a 45 mins boat ride out of Ihla Grande was voted one of the top 10 most beautiful in the world by Vogue Magazine 3 years ago. If you go in a big group, local tenders offer discounts on day trips, so you've got to ask around.

Our evening was spent having dinner by the beach, as per usual I was too hungry to take a snap of my food before eating it... The island has several restaurants serving different cuisines and the seafood is superb. There are many things you can do in the evening from shopping at the handmade jewellery stalls to dancing to live music playing at the square. As we had a busy day ahead, a few of us went for some quiet drinks at the local bar - caipirinhas, obviously.
