Greece: Stranded in Naxos

One of the largest of the Cycladic Islands, we decided to stay in Naxos for 4 nights and in my opinion certainly the most memorable out of the 5 stops we visited. Despite getting stranded in the mountains, hiking in the heat for petrol and catapulted by flies we had so much fun on our mini adventures.

We stayed by Plaka beach at a resort called the Plaza Beach Hotel, which I would definitely recommend. The resort is spacious and in a fantastic location with its own section of the beach on it's doorstep where people can rent umbrellas and deckchairs.

If you are staying near Plaka beach, be sure to pop into the Cedar Cafe for a club sandwich and their fresh orange juice. A family run restaurant with it's tropical vibe and laidback decor made it one of our favourite stops.

Our other favourite restaurants that we recommend are Nikos and Maria (you can walk up to the counter and choose what you wish) and the Three Brothers where guests can dine on the beach.

Taking a stroll to Apollo's Temple...

We climbed onto the rocky cliffs and watched the sun set right in front of our eyes. Front row tickets to nature's show.

Naxos is mountainous with dozens of little valleys dotted in between. I would definitely recommend renting your own form of transportation if you plan on visiting Naxos as it's the best way to get around without having to depend on public transport - plus you get a better feel of the island and are free to do your own exploring.

Despite our quad bike breaking down on us a couple of times, we managed to see quite of bit of the North of the island.

Dimitris Temple...

Kouros Temple...

Agia Tower...

After a long hard day exploring, there is nothing better than a refreshing dip into the sea whilst the sun sets.
